PROJECT OVERVIEW
An editorial and information design project that uses narrative storytelling to translate complex plastic pollution data into an accessible and engaging experience. A custom typeface was also designed specifically for the project, extending its visual identity and reinforcing the connection between typography, illustration, and storytelling.
THE CONCEPT
The project follows the journey of three anthropomorphic plastic slippers, Milla, Marina, and Mariella, as they transition from everyday footwear into environmental waste. Their individual paths serve as a visual narrative to explain different waste disposal processes.
FORMAT & STRUCTURE
The project is designed as a four-book set housed inside a custom slipcase:
• Book 1 (Introduction): Introduces the characters and sets up the core theme: how everyday plastic objects become waste.
• Book 2 (Milla): Illustrates the journey and ecological impact of plastic ending up in landfills.
• Book 3 (Marina): Visualizes the realities and statistics of marine plastic pollution.
• Book 4 (Mariella): Explains the cycle, benefits, and proper process of plastic recycling.
THE APPROACH
By combining an illustrated fairy tale, custom typography, data visualization, and communication design, the project transforms complex environmental statistics into an intuitive, educational, and emotionally engaging experience for the reader.
